EQUIPMENT

Let us help you understand what is

required, recommended, and optional

The world of race gear may be overwhelming, but luckily, most of the equipment is optional. The only required racing gear is a FIS certified ski helmet, required by OISRA. Athletes must have boots, skis, poles, and other skiing gear, but none have to be race specific.

Required

Everyone is required to wear an

FIS Certified ski helmet

Racers must wear a FIS certified helmet for GS races, regulated by the Metro league. Racers don't need a FIS helmet for slalom, but using a helmet with a chin guard is highly recommended.

We highly recommend the use of

race boots and skis, chin bars and pole guards

Racers may opt to purchase race boots, SL and GS skis. We highly recommend investing in boots first, as these can be the barrier for skiing ability. We recommend getting a chin bar for Slalom to protect your face from the gates. Purchasing pole guards is recommended once one's slalom skills are more advanced.

Recommended

Optional

Other items are purely optional like

race suits, race poles, and shin guards

Many racers opt to purchase race suits, but it is not necessary.
